Group Guitar
AGE 8-11
This fun and interactive class allows beginning students the opportunity to learn guitar in a relaxed group setting. Literally hundreds of songs can be played by learning only a few chords, and after taking this class, students will be well prepared to continue with private guitar lessons.

STRINGS
String Ensembles
BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE, ADVANCED
Academy string students are automatically enrolled in a group class when they register for private lessons; community students may register as per fees below. In “group,” string students learn essential ensemble-playing skills. Students play musical games and practice repertoire while exploring supplementary materials to reinforce the skills they learn at their private lessons. They will develop camaraderie, repertoire, and confidence enabling them to perform comfortably together on stage. Ensembles perform publicly twice per year.

PIANO
Yamaha Music Education System: Young Musicians’ Course
AGE 6-8
“YMC” is a great way for children to begin a lifetime enjoyment of music. The three-year curriculum develops musicianship and keyboard playing skills with wonderful materials written specifically for beginners of this age.

Piano Technique Class
RCM Grade 4-9
Say No to procrastinating on RCM (Royal Conservatory) technical requirements! This class gives students a boost to start the year off right, whether they are beginning a new grade, or are already preparing for their next exam.

Intro to Piano Accompaniment
Intermediate or advanced pianists (AGE 15+)
Pianists are the only musicians who can earn an income by accompanying others. This class teaches the basic skills of a profession that will put students in high demand during exams, festivals and other performances. The fee includes a music book to train sight reading, open-score reading, playing in various instrumental combinations, and various styles of accompaniment. Chances to interact with a live soloist will be provided during class.

SCHOOL BAND STUDENTS
For those who need only a few lessons in order to improve their playing in their school band. For a reduced fee, the Academy provides four private lessons with one of our qualified and experienced teachers. Experience the difference one-on-one attention makes to your playing!

VOICE / ALL INSTRUMENTS
Tayosei Performing Group
AGE 8 to 13
“Tayosei” in Japanese means diversity. Students learn the basics of reading music, singing in harmony, and prepare for public performances. But Tayosei is more than a children’s choir! Students also learn ukulele and hand drumming, and get to experience several workshops by visiting experts each year. This is an ideal group for beginner voice and piano students to learn essential skills that will help them in their lessons.
30-Weeks Over 2 Terms on Wednesdays, 3:30 pm
Classes Start October 3 and January 23
Cost: $50 per term.
Music Theory and History
AGE 12+
Learn the mechanics of music from the basics to advanced composition and style analysis in private, semi-private and group classes. Courses are offered in Rudiments, Sight & Ear, Music Listening, Harmony, History, Analysis, and Counterpoint and most are geared towards Conservatory exam preparation.

The Band Academy
INTERMEDIATE ABILITY
An enrichment course providing experience building a band with other instrumentalists and vocalists. May use various Academy instruments including guitar, percussion, ukulele, keyboard, p.a. system and recording equipment.

Concerto Intensive
Intermediate or advanced instrumentalist or vocalist
Give that concerto the attention it deserves! This unique class helps you explore your concerto on a deeper level to give your playing more power and intelligence. Classes consist of performances, constructive feedback and sharing of each week’s mini-assignment with others. The instructor will play the orchestral reduction, provided he is given a piano score. Students should attend having already chosen their concerto in consultation with their private teachers. (Note: for vocalists, “concerto” means a concert work for solo voice and orchestra.)
